ABOUT

At Streetwise HR, we don’t believe leadership training should feel like sitting through slides you forget the next day. 

We partner with Bournemouth & Poole College to deliver practical, hands-on leadership & management development programmes for real managers doing real jobs, in real businesses. 

This 9-week Leadership & Management programme was designed for people who have often been promoted because they’re great at their job… but have never actually been shown how to lead people. 

Both cohorts brought together managers from education, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, production, technical and service-based roles across Dorset. Different industries, same challenge: “How do I confidently manage people without feeling like I’m winging it?” 

THE PROBLEM

Across every industry we work with, we see the same pattern. 

Managers are expected to lead teams without being given the tools to actually do it. 

That leads to: 

  • Avoidance of difficult conversations 

  • Inconsistent management styles across teams 

  • Low confidence in handling performance issues 

  • Uncertainty around HR processes like disciplinaries and grievances 

  • Reliance on “gut feel” rather than structured leadership approaches 

And the impact of that isn’t just internal. It shows up in performance, engagement, retention, and culture. 

Most leadership training available is either too theoretical, too generic, or completely disconnected from the reality of day-to-day management. 

So we built something better. 

THE SOLUTION

In partnership with Bournemouth & Poole College, we designed a 9-week leadership development programme that focused on one thing: 

Practical leadership that managers can actually use the next day. 

No corporate waffle. No death-by-PowerPoint. Just real tools, real conversations, and real application.

How we delivered it: 

We kept it interactive, honest, and grounded in reality: 

  • Real workplace scenarios from participants 

  • Group discussion and peer learning 

  • Practical frameworks including GROW, SBI, DISC and STAP 

  • Open conversations about challenges managers were actually facing 

  • A safe space to admit “I’m not sure how to handle this” and work through it properly 

Because that’s where real development happens. 

THE IMPACT

The feedback told its own story. 

Key outcomes include: 

  • 100% of participants rated the programme as Excellent 

  • 100% said it improved their confidence as a manager 

  • 100% said the content was relevant to their role 

  • 100% engagement across the cohort 

But the real impact wasn’t just numbers. 

It was behaviour change. 

  • Managers started having conversations they had been avoiding. 

  • Communication became clearer and more consistent. 

  • Confidence increased across every level of the cohort. 

  • Leadership shifted from reactive to structured.
